How does it work?

Medical Rolling is performed with local anaesthetic where a multiple needle rolling hand piece is passed over the skin. The needles penetrate deep into the dermis (deepest layer) of the skin creating micro-dermal ”injuries”. These dermal lesions lead to new collagen formation through the normal skin repair mechanisms. The Medical Rolling also perforates and softens the fibrous scar tissue, enabling the deposition of new collagen. The new collagen fills depressed scars from the bottom up, filling and smoothing the texture to match the surrounding skin. In some cases it is also possible to re-pigment hypo-pigmented scars.

It is essential to insure control of active acne prior to commencing treatment for depressed acne scarring. The successful treatment of acne requires understanding of the underlying causes of acne and the implementation of an appropriate daily skincare regime to prevent and control new acne outbreaks. Once acne is controlled, a scar treatment programme can be commenced.

Is the process painful?

The procedure is done in neoSKiN’s clinic, under local anaesthetic applied to the skin. Dental blocks are given to the more sensitive area around the mouth. Some people describe the treatment as a slight discomfort to which they soon become accustomed. Vitamin Infusion is frequently recommended following Medical Rolling to sooth the area that has been treated.

How many treatments will it take?

Medical Rolling treatments can be repeated every three months. You will need to wait three months between treatments to allow the maximum new collagen deposition and to assess the success of the treatment. Skin responds differently but most people will need multiple treatments for maximum results.

Healing and Recovery.

Vaseline or suitable cream is applied after the treatment and is to be left on overnight. The following day, you may have a shower but should not apply any skincare products.
