The concern

Acne scars are changes in the skin’s structure, not simply marks left after a breakout.

They may appear as shallow depressions, narrow deeper scars, rolling texture or raised tissue. Red or brown post-acne marks are different and may need a separate treatment approach.

At neoSKiN, we assess scar type, depth, skin tone, active acne and previous treatment before recommending a plan. Improving scarring is usually gradual and often requires a series or combination of treatments.

What shapes the plan.

Understanding different acne scars
  • Rolling scars: broad depressions that create a wave-like texture
  • Boxcar scars: wider depressions with more defined edges
  • Ice-pick scars: narrow, deeper openings
  • Raised scars: thickened tissue that needs cautious assessment and may require medical care
  • Post-acne marks: red or pigmented areas without a change in skin depth

Different scar types respond differently. No single device or technique is ideal for every scar.

What we assess before treatment

Active breakouts should generally be controlled before intensive scar treatment. We also consider skin tone, tendency to pigment, medication, healing history and available downtime.

Some scars may benefit from treatment outside our scope. We will recommend referral when a dermatologist or other medical practitioner is more appropriate.

Treatment options for acne scarring

Depending on the scar and skin, your plan may include:

  • Dermapen skin needling to create controlled microchannels and support collagen remodelling
  • MOXI laser for suitable texture, tone and superficial remodelling concerns
  • Pico laser where the available device protocol is appropriate for pigment or texture
  • Peels and resurfacing for selected superficial texture and post-acne marks
  • BBL BroadBand Light for eligible redness or pigment that contributes to an uneven appearance
  • LED light therapy as recovery support within an appropriate plan

A staged combination can be more useful than repeating one treatment without reviewing progress.

What results can I expect?

Scar treatment aims to soften contrast and improve overall texture; it cannot promise completely unmarked skin. Changes usually develop over months as the skin remodels. Standardised photography can help track progress that is difficult to notice day to day.

The number of treatments depends on scar type, treatment intensity, healing response and desired level of improvement.

FAQs
Can acne scars be removed completely?

Complete removal cannot be promised. Treatment can improve the appearance and texture of suitable scars, with the degree of change varying between individuals.

Is skin needling or laser better?

It depends on scar type, skin tone, active acne, downtime and previous response. Some plans use one modality; others sequence treatments.

Can you treat red or brown acne marks?

Often, but marks are not the same as scars. Redness, pigmentation and structural scarring may need different treatment methods.

How long does collagen remodelling take?

Collagen-related change develops gradually over weeks and months. Your clinician will schedule reviews at meaningful intervals rather than judging the result too early.

How we treat it

The treatments for scarring & texture.

DermaPen® Skin Needling

Controlled micro-channelling breaks down scar tissue and rebuilds smoother collagen through a planned series.

MOXI® Laser

Fractionated laser resurfacing refines texture and softens scarring with each pass.

Peels & Resurfacing

Resurfacing peels support the remodelling series by refining the surface between sessions.

What to use at home

The routine we would start you on.

Texture responds to steady exfoliation and antioxidants, not to one strong product used occasionally.
